China will see frequent cold air activity this week, with three cold waves expected to hit back-to-back, bringing strong winds, sharp temperature drops, rain, and snow across much of the country, according to the China Meteorological Administration on Monday.

A relatively strong cold front is currently sweeping across most of China from west to east. Under its influence, temperatures dropped by 8-10 degrees Celsius on Monday morning in parts of northwest and northern China, with some areas experiencing drops of more than 12 degrees. These areas also saw winds reaching force 8-10 gusts, locally force 11 or higher, along with floating dust or blowing sand.

It is forecast that from November 24 to 25, this cold air mass will continue affecting central and east China, causing temperatures to drop by 4-8 degrees. Some areas in northern China may experience decreases of 10-12 degrees. North of the Yangtze River will see northerly winds of force 5-7, with gusts reaching force 8-9. Light to moderate snowfall is expected in northern parts of North China and northeast China, while heavy snow is likely in some areas of southwest China.

A strong cold wave will follow closely behind, moving from north to south across most of China from November 25 to 27. It will cause temperatures to drop by 4-8 degrees, and in some areas, by 10-12 degrees. The cold air will be accompanied by northerly winds at force 5-7, gusting to force 8-9. Light to moderate snow or sleet is expected in northwest China, northern China, and northeast China. Some regions might experience heavy snow or snowstorms.

A third wave of cold air is expected to impact areas north of the Yangtze River from November 29 to 30. Most of these regions will experience temperature drops of 4-6 degrees, with some areas seeing decreases of 8-10 degrees. Force 4-6 northerly winds are forecast in northern and northeastern China. On November 29, heavy snow and snowstorms are predicted for northeastern part of Inner Mongolia and northeast China.

Meteorological experts have advised the public to stay informed about weather forecasts, dress appropriately, and take precautions against the cold. During windy conditions, people should avoid temporary structures. Protective measures are recommended when going outdoors in areas experiencing sand and dust. Caution is also urged due to potentially slippery roads caused by rain and snow.
